Home Is Not Here
The Chinese University of Hong Kong Press
Overseas Chinese historian Wang Gungwu wrote the story of his "long-term semi-nomadic life" when he was nearly ninety years old. His life started from Southeast Asia in the colonial era. After colonization, war, turmoil, and revolution, he migrated between three continents for most of his life, forming a rich and unique story of wandering in the historical torrent of the 20th century.
The memoir consists of two volumes. The first volume, "Home Is Not Here", looks back at Wang Gungwu's youthful experience full of uncertainties and transitions. This period of time had a profound impact on him and became the foundation of his studies and life.
