Northlandia nice and cold
To keep Northlandia nice and cold, the Ice Queen orders the Chief Engineer (an arctic fox) and a team of construction workers (arctic hares) to build giant igloos to shelter all the precious melting glaciers in the country.
A arctic fox head dominates the composition while a team of obese busy arctic hare construction workers lazily hustle and bustle to build the igloo.
The arrows on the snowy bricks suggest the direction the reflected heat travels—away from Northlandia and into the sky.
In the foreground, arctic hare limbs prepare snow bricks for construction while the northern lights traverse in the sky. Glimpses of the giant puffins are visible on top of the mountains.
The artist employs a special technique to “carve” the paper before rendering the piece with layers of colour pencils, referring to her woodcut practice.
