Living in Taiwan! A Hong Konger's 4th Year on the Island
"Living in Taiwan! A Hong Konger's 4th Year on the Island" is a touching picture book that tells the story of a 90s girl who learns to live, understand, and ultimately enjoy her life in Taiwan.
Starting from the challenges of adjusting to being alone in a room to getting used to moving houses and following the weekly garbage collection schedule, she experiences moments of confusion, mistaking the sound of Taiwan's garbage trucks for Hong Kong's ice cream trucks. She learns to enjoy the pleasures of being alone, experiences awkward moments at amusement parks, and becomes accustomed to searching for discounted food and daily necessities as she embarks on solo adventures.
Through it all, she shares moments of cultural differences between Hong Kong and Taiwan and the small stories that make up her life, such as enjoying Korean barbecue and cherishing time with friends.
This is the diary of Charlie's fourth year as a Hong Konger living in Taiwan, where she works hard and enjoys the simple pleasures of life, from interacting with kind neighbors and landlords to being bullied by park dogs, singing her heart out, adopting pets, and so much more.
